| These two long rooftop terraces, with their breathtaking view over the north of Rome, had already had stopgap measures taken: a large wooden pergola had been erected on the western terrace, while on the east, a low flower bed full of white roses ran most of the length on one side. It was decided that the view and the position made elaborate vegetation unnecessary... even distracting. The existing plants were more than sufficient to give a feeling of green at a lower level. But given the sheer dimensions of the spaces, surrounded by their imposing balustrade, there was a feeling of emptiness at eye level and above: a few tall specimens were essential to give a sense of proportion. | |
