Città della Pieve, Umbria
Returning to a garden I worked on in 2014, I turned my attention to the area in front of the house, and to a thin strip of land at the back. At the front I extended the paved area and added a pergola in order to provide a sunny sitting area hidden (once the covering of roses and clematis has grown) from the gaze of neighbours. Overlooking the new area at the back is a guest room which is partly below ground level: there is a large window, but no direct access to the exterior. Here I extended the width of the garden and added lush greenery (herbs and vegetables) in two long Cor-ten planters which leave the view from inside the guest room wide open.
