In this case my clients simply required a plan for a salt-wind-battered garden surrounding a holiday house built – quite literally – on sand in northern continental Europe. As any designer knows, it can be frustrating not to see a project through to completion. But I always welcome the opportunity to research the challenges of climate, geology and landscape so entirely different to the central Italian ones I am used to.
